FUQ TLIETA

2022

FUQ TLIETA (2022) marked Paul Camilleri’s public debut, presenting his foundational artistic vocabulary within a collective dialogue alongside veteran Maltese artists Pawl Carbonaro and Jesmond Vassallo. This early body of work introduced his signature interrogation of space, materialising as a visual exploration where non-objective compositions remain subtly tethered to figurative anchors.

Deceptively simple at first glance, the paintings showcase a strong early aptitude for raw line work, surface texture, and a restrained colour palette directly responsive to his immediate, changing surroundings. The collection established the early groundwork for his rigorous material process, displaying a nascent fascination with structural boundaries and atmospheric depth that would later define his subsequent solo practices.
